The transition from working in corporate to entrepreneurship can be challenging to say the least. For those of you who have been through this, I am sure you can relate. Working for someone else provides many benefits such as vacation and sick days, health insurance, and a pay check every two weeks. However, job security is not as prominent as it once was and working for the same company until retirement is very rare.

The advantages of owning your own company may include a flexible schedule, the opportunity to make more money, and the ability to create your own destiny. Some of the downsides include: feeling all alone, lack of confidence, the ebb and flow of income, stress, and disappointment.

There are many articles regarding the struggles of owning your business, but several of them end by stating something such as, the harder the struggle the sweeter the reward. There are days I am not sure I made the right decision to become an entrepreneur. When this happens, remembering why I decided to do it keeps me going. I made this decision because I wanted to spend more time with my family and I wanted to be in control of my future.

What motivates you to keep going?

One way to stay motivated is to meet with other women business owners who have been through some of the same struggles. A strong support system is crucial whether it be your spouse, friend, family member, or a neighbor.

Who has been your biggest supporter?

Remember, you can do this! Stay strong and believe in yourself.

One of my favorite quotes: “Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs”. -Farrah Gray
