Judy Leonard was featured in a front page article in the May 23 business section of the O.C. Register. Columnist Jan Norman reported how Judy (and husband Dan) bought a franchise of UNITS Mobile Storage after Dan decided to leave the banking industry. The article explored how the current economy is pushing people out of corporate jobs and into becoming business owners.
Mirna Bard's NuReach Global, Inc. was honored to be among the top ten SEO/Social Media training and consulting companies for June 2009. The nationwide rankings, determined by topseos, an independent authority on search vendors, identify the cream of the crop among Internet marketing firms. The list appears on the website topseos.com.
Susan Johnson, founder/CEO of Susan's Healthy Gourmet, a past president of NAWBO-OC and past Remarkable Woman, was featured in OC Register and OCBJ articles as one of 5 OCBJ Women in Business award recipients for 2009. Online coverage came from OCMetro.com, an extension of their June Women in Business issue.
Gena H. Reed, CEO of Paragon Biomedical, also received excellent press coverage in the OC Register and OCBJ for her 2009 OCBJ Woman in Business Award. Gena also was recognized earlier by NAWBO-OC as a Remarkable Woman.
Cara Good shared her social media marketing expertise in May participating in the OCC Small Business Expo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEYRq9fhuHw) and a TwitInterview (http://wundermarx.com/cara-stewart-twitinterview). She advises businesses to brief, use simple but powerful words and ask questions to capitalize on a 140 character Tweet.
Kim Maxwell, The Etiquette Lady, is the new Executive Director and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Brea, Placentia and Yorba Linda. Kim's appointment was the subject of an OC Register article on April 21. Kim is a 30-year veteran of non-profit organizations.
Cathy Daugherty, partner at Trademark Insurance, was cited in Jan Norman's online OC Register column April 16, and the print edition April 18, for being named Region IX Women in Business Champion of the Year by the U.S. SBA, Santa Ana Office. Cathy's award was also mentioned on the MyWomanOwnedBusiness.com website.
Darlynn Morgan, CEO and founder of Morgan Law Group and counsel to the NAWBO-OC Board, was featured as one of 40 Under 40 entrepreneurs in the May issue of OC Metro. Darlynn astutely referenced NAWBO-OC as her biggest source of inspiration -- after her mother! Thanks Darlynn!
Nineteen NAWBO-OC members were among the women business professionals nominated for this year's Women Business Awards presented by the OC Business Journal. Nominees were: Sondra Ames, Kira Bruno, Joey Carlile, Kathy Dawson, Laverne Friedmann, Loreen Gilbert, Cara Good, Lynne Houri, Susan Johnson, Hilary Kaye, Rebekah King, Josette Mollica, Darlynn Morgan, Dana Rambow, Gena Reed, Gloria Robbins, Kim Shepard, Tammy Wong and Madeline Zuckerman. Honorees will be announced at the May 21 luncheon.
Both Hilary Kaye, president of HKA Inc., and Cara Good, chief executive of Wundermarx|PR, were quoted in Jan Norman's April 1 article in the O.C. Register. Offering opinions on the relevance of federal help to small business owners, Hilary finds more benefit in tax incentives than in loans, while Cara says the increased availability of loans can help to get businesses through the crunch.
Stacy McCullough was interviewed and featured in the January/February 2009 edition of the national magazine, "The Residential Specialist."
Four articles written by Markell Steele, career counselor and founder of Futures in Motion, Inc., have appeared in the trade publication Pharmacy Week since November. Liz Schmidt, founder of Organic and Healthy, was quoted in Jan Norman's Feb. 12 O.C. Register column on businesses that thrive during recession. Liz discussed her company's anti-aging LED light, which is enjoying increased sales as an economical alternative to salon light treatments. (44)
Janet Cronick was named one of OC Metro's "20 Women to Watch" in their cover story published March 1. Janet, President of Ultimate Gifts, was cited for the success of her promotional products business and for being part of the U.S. State Department's International Speakers Program. (46)
Cathy Daugherty of Trademark Insurance provided insurance expertise in an article in the Feb. 28 OC Register on the topic of the changes occurring in COBRA for small business owners.

The new website Online Best Colleges.com included two articles by Judy Rose on their February 12 list of "100 Inspirational Posts to Make You a Better Writer." Judy owns JLR Communications which provides custom writing and writing repair services. (39)
A 15,000 square foot facility in Irvine is the new home of Susan's Healthy Gourmet, founded by Susan Johnson. OC Metro reported on February 19 that the company, which offers home-delivered healthy meals, can accommodate their continuing growth in the expanded space. (42)
Susan Johnson, and daughter Kerry Johnson Anthony, have created Xan Confections, with chocolatier Tracey Downey as Director of R &D. The new venture of delicious - and healthy -- chocolates was featured in Jan Norman's article in the O.C. Register Business Section on Feb. 28. (42)
 Hilary Kaye of HKA Inc. Public Relations was the expert quoted in the Small Business Makeover in the LA Times on March 2. On Jan. 20, Zov Karamardian was the subject of an article in the O.C. Register announcing that Food Network stars Michael Symon and Marc Summers will attend a fundraiser for the James Beard Foundation at Zov's Bistro in February.
Sandra Robbie has started a YouTube series called Mendez News Network to publicize information about the landmark Mendez vs. Westminster case that was the subject of her award-winning documentary. The first report, Mendez News 1, hit computer screens on January 31.
Cary Booth, VP at Madison Street Partners, co-authored the article "Managing and Minimizing Leasing Costs in a Recession" published in the Jan. 12 issue of California Real Estate Journal. This is a must read if you lease office or other commercial space.
Kathy Dawson, founder and president of staffing company Dawson & Dawson, Inc., was featured in the December 2008 issue of Staff Digest, a nationwide publication. In the article, Kathy shares some tips about starting a staffing business in this economy.
Elise Rainey of Image by Elise, was the subject of a full page article in January's Orange Coast Magazine. Elise is a licensed specialist who uses the latest skin-care and makeup techniques to help women bring out their natural beauty.
"Camera Helps Brain Focus" is the title of an article by Jane Glenn Haas published in 10/29/08 issue of The OC Register, syndicated nationally. Jane interviewed Julie Diebolt Price, author of Babyboomers' Guide to Digital Photography, a recently published eBook.
Janis Adams, a long term care insurance specialist and registered nurse, was quoted in September's Senior Market Advisor. In the article "Long Term Care, Selling the Need," Janis discussed informing prospective clients about the benefits of LTCI by using examples based on their own situations.
Janet O'Connor, president of O'Connor Creative Inc., provided the Daily Tip for Jan Norman's OC Register column on November 4. Janet offered basic but wise golden rules for business owners, including reminders to return calls and e-mails promptly and to always follow up on promises.
