Union
Bank of California Does Business With Women
Union Bank of California (UBOC) is a small bank with diverse
procurement needs. Approximately 25 percent of UBOC's procurement
contracts go to women and minority-owned businesses. UBOC's
approach to procurement is to build a database that includes
all qualified suppliers, women-owned businesses as well as
non women-owned businesses. "We are interested in attracting
WBEs because they are a good fit for us and because they
can
stand on their own two feet as a supplier for UBOC, not simply
because they are a woman-owned business," says Richard
Chacon, Manager of Supplier Diversity for UBOC. UBOC's
procurement needs include information technology (IT)
services, human resources, audit services,
architectural services, building maintenance services, computer
peripherals and software, management consulting, landscaping,
courier services, commercial art and graphic designers, and
security and control services. UBOC
has a three-step process for building their supplier
database. "First, we ask that you
make sure your product or service is a fit for the bank.
This is the most important step for WBOs," says
Chacon. Second,
request a UBOC vendor information form, fill it out and return
it to Chacon. Chacon can be reached by phone at 800-821-8351,
or via e-mail at Richard.Chacon@uboc.com.
It is helpful to note on the form if you are certified as
a WBE, but UBOC does not require certification. Third,
update your contact information as frequently as necessary.
Before Chacon puts a UBOC department in touch with a potential
supplier, he verifies the contact information on the supplier.
Keeping your contact information current in his database will
accelerate the bidding process for both you and UBOC.
