members (left to right) Rachel
Owens of
Succession Strategies, Susan Hashimoto of Higher
Visuals Design, Rhonda Kanatzar of
Pixie Trails, and Liz Schmidt of
Intelligraphics and Light4Beauty, were featured in
a February 20th Orange County Register
piece by Jan Norman titled "One Woman Show." The
center-spread article discussed the large number of women-owned
businesses
that have no employees. Photos and comments
by these ladies about issues such as why they have
no employees, keys
to operating
without employees, and
the toughest part of running their businesses were
included. See
article (free registration required).
The
Times Orange County recently published an article praising
the services of In Home Care Solutions owned by Gina
Kiziroglu.
To quote
one
client, "I remain very impressed with the standard of
service that IHCS provides, I trust them, they make me feel
safe."
NAWBO-OC enjoyed
terrific publicity on January 26, when a segment by Dave
Lopez filmed at Hilary Kaye's HKA,
Inc. in Tustin was
aired on KCBS-TV (2) and KCAL-TV (9). The segment featured
interviews with Hilary Kaye, Cathy
Daugherty,
of Trademark Insurance and President of NAWBO-OC, and Camille
Jayne of Matters at
Hand and NAWBO-OC President-Elect. The focus was the Orange
County view on the increase of women business owners—particularly
the fact that OC's numbers are at the forefront. See broadcast: Broadband OR Dial-up.
Zeena Dhalla, owner of The Athletic Club for Women, provided
workday fitness tips for OC Metro readers in the February 16
issue. Zeena provided the content for OCM's The Edge section,
titled, "Work Out While You Work."
Bethany
LaFlam, a business attorney with LaFlam
Law, provided some legal insights in the article "Guilty
Until Proven Innocent" in the February 16 issue of OC
Metro. The article
discussed the high cost of workplace harassment and LaFlam
was cited as one of the local experts on this topic.
Jodi
Jones, CSN, of Vitality Gourmet® was featured in CityLine’s March/April edition. The article titled, “Local Company
Serves Up 90% Weight loss Success,” discussed the results
of a two-year beta test, and reveals how the program works
for so many people, when other programs failed. Vitality Gourmet
recently expanded its distribution area to include the entire
US.
Smita
Salgaonkar's
Saffron Spot was one of just a few shops located in
the Little India area of Artesia, CA that was mentioned in
recent
articles
in
the Orange
County Register and AAA's Westways magazine.
Also, the March 11th segment of Showbiz India was
taped on location
at Saffron
Spot, including an interview with actress and model Pooja
Batra.
Camille
Jayne,
founder of Matters at Hand and NAWBO-OC's president-elect,
was featured in January's Professional
Woman's Magazine. The article focused on what today's
busy woman can do to get her personal
business matters in order. The article reported
that Camille's innovative firm is forging
a new family service industry and is well-suited to facilitate
these vital matters for women-on-the-go.

Gina
Kiziroglu,
In Home Care Solutions
My name is Gina Kiziroglu. Yes, it's a weird
Greek last name. Don't blame me if you can't pronounce it...
It is my husband's
fault.
On a more serious note, I have worked in the medical field and in facilities
for many years. After witnessing many cases where patients were totally neglected
in these facilities I vowed to make a difference, even if only a small one.
I, and all those who work at In Home Care Solutions, are committed to helping
seniors, adults and children LIVE A HEALTHIER, HAPPIER LIFE AT HOME. more

wishes to thank the following companies who recently committed
their generous support to
the Remarkable Women’s 2006 Awards Program. Without
the continued contributions from companies such as these,

corporate members by patronizing their businesses whenever
possible!
Public
Policy: (by Shaila Mistry) Influencing
Public Policy is a challenging responsibility and privilege.
As women business owners we bring unique perspectives and skills
to the table, and we evaluate the implications of the
distribution of power and resources differently. My mission
is to influence
core decision makers at the state, national, and international
levels to create policies with greater sensitivity
to
business owners in general, and women in particular.
A practical example: Last month I was able
to shape the policy and testify on the reform of the "restraining
order" within the context of work place violence.
Currently employers are required to take out an individual
protection order
for every employee that we are seeking protection for, which
takes great administrative effort and expense. The reform,
if passed,
will mean that a whole work site may be defined
as protected.
Public Policy is the way to create
a better environment for all. Please join NAWBO-CA leaders
and other
women business owners for the 2006 LEGISLATIVE
ACTION SUMMIT in
Sacramento on March 22nd. This day-long, high-energy
event will not only empower you,
but provide you with
tools and
information necessary to manage and grow your business. NOTE:
For an international view of women influencing decison
making
see
Shaila's report from the U.N., below.
THANK YOU!

INTERNATIONAL NEWS
Report
from the United Nations
Shaila
Rao Mistry, NAWBO-OC's VP of Public Policy and President of Jayco
MMI, was an official delegate to the 50th Session of the United
Nations Commission on Status of Women in New York, Feb 27-Mar 10,
2006. She was part of a delegation of women representing 78 countries. Her
draft document on Women and Men in Decision Making (which is one
of two main themes in discussion all week
by 191 governments) was largely well received in the informals,
but some key countries excluded her notations on "aging." She
was able to include fundamental critical elements such as a women's
right to an independent vote free
