Simple Steps to Venture Financing (#3 of 4-part
series)
by Cassie Hoag, Equity
Architects, LLC
Step 2: Get Ready So venture capital may
indeed make sense for your company. Now you need to prepare
for the scrutiny
that a sizeable investment commands. First, if you’re
structured as a limited liability company (LLC), a partnership
(GP/LP/LLP), a professional corporation (PC), or are operating
as a single proprietor, you should restructure as a corporation
(Inc). Talk to your accountant or lawyer about how best to
do this. Next, here’s what your company should prepare... continued

to fruition. Unfortunately, great ideas are not easily transformed
into reality. What does it take to bring a brilliant idea
to fruition? Why does new product diversification fail; is it

are asking these days about asset protection. Asset protection
is a part of an integrated estate planning process whereby
you organize your assets and affairs so that you protect and
control your assets during your life, in the event of an incapacity,
and direct the distribution at the time of death... continued

Report From National Convention by
Rachel Owens
NAWBO's National Convention "Owning
the Future" was held from May 31st to June 3rd in the
charming city of San Francisco. Members and chapters leaders
from around
the country, as well as international members from Russia and
a large contingency from Mexico, were treated to leadership
and business strategy sessions, and were introduced to the
2006-07 National Board of Directors. In attendance were OC
Chapter members Rochelle Schneider, Vicki
Tortorelli, Cassie
Hoag, Shaila Mistry (left to right
above), Camille Jayne, Rachel Owens,
Hilary Kaye, Vanessa
O'Neill and Chris Felicijan. A
highlight of the convention was the "Make Mine a
Million" presentations
by 32 business owners. These finalists each gave a four-minute
pitch about
their business and its growth potential. Twenty were chosen
to receive
financial and mentoring help from OPEN from
American Express. Orange
County Chapter member Vanessa O'Neill, of
Cedar Pointe, was chosen as one of the twenty winners.
The opportunity to make connections with
business
owners from around the world and to hear world-class speakers
(including a surprise visit by Suzie Ormand) made the event
a first rate experience. Put next year's convention on your
calendar now—May 31 to June 3, 2007 in Atlanta GA.
