MEMBERS IN THE NEWS
On
January 16, Rena Loveless of A Pole Lot of Fun
was featured in a segment about pole dancing, the new fitness
craze taking North America by storm. The piece, by Lori Kelman,
ran throughout the day on KFWB, AM 980.
Dee Putman-Elliott was
featured in a Jan Norman article in the Business Monday section
of the OC Register on February 6. Jan's article, "Employees by Day, Entrepreneurs
by Night," discussed business owners who are running their
own businesses while still working as employees elsewhere.
Dee discussed her venture, YouGottaGoTravel.com, an online
travel company she is building with her husband, while still
working as VP Sales & Marketing at Executive Moving Systems.
And that's in addition to founding and running our great mentoring
program. Go Dee!
Janis
Dinwiddie has
been getting press attention on several fronts. As the consultant
who is engineering the
city of Newport Beach's Centennial Celebration, Janis earned
kudos in the Jan. 3 Daily Pilot, and elsewhere, for the city's
award-winning float in the Rose Parade—a remarkable
feat for a first-time float! Janis' Dinwiddie Events also was
praised
in the December issue of Special Events Magazine as producer
of the First Team Real Estate Invitational Regatta and a full
weekend of events along with the race. All told, it was a very
successful fundraiser for Hoag Hospital's Heart and Vascular
Institute.
Nahid Casazza of Aspyrre Professional
Coaching, and Judee Slack, of SlackTax,
Inc., were both cited in Jan Norman's January 23 article in
the OC Register on how local companies are viewing the 2006
business year. In the article titled "Sunny Side Up," Nahid,
Judee, and other business owners in O.C., discussed their expectations
on hiring and profits and other business issues for 2006. Fortunately
for all of us, the business owners have a positive outlook!
Hilary
Kaye, NAWBO-OC board member and president of HKA,
Inc., was quoted in a BusinessWeek Online article by Karen
Klein
on February 1. The article, "So, You Want Some Attention?" discussed
how startup companies can best generate attention through publicity
and Hilary explained how important it is to target press releases
to the right media outlets.
Cathy
Daugherty, president
of NAWBO-OC, and our NAWBO chapter both received great coverage
in the Feb. 10 issue of the OC Register. The newspaper
reported Cathy's
challenge to the membership to wear red to the Feb. 7 dinner
meeting, whose topic was corporate wellness and women's heart
health. Cathy pledged to donate $10 to the American Heart Association
for everyone who wore red, the color promoting heart health.
The chapter heard the pledge loud and clear—out of
129 attendees, 103 wore red and Cathy wrote a check to the
AHA for $1,030.
