MEMBERS IN THE NEWS
Three NAWBO-OC members—Cathy Daugherty (president), Rochelle Schneider and Susan Johnson (both past presidents)—were among the successful women featured in Churm Publishing's new publication—OC Women's Business—Strategies for Success. Premiered at our Remarkable Women event on October 14, the new publication is a compilation of "the best of" Kim Porrazzo's feature articles in the Women's Business section of OC Metro. Churm Publishing is a special friend to NAWBO-OC—a Corporate Partner and a media sponsor of the Remarkable Women event. Also distributed at the California Governor's Conference the following week, the publication can be found at Hallmark Stores, Curves and 24-Hour Fitness locations.

Mona Lisa Faris, NAWBO-OC member and one of our Remarkable Women honorees this year, was featured in a Dana Parsons column in the LA Times-OC Edition on Sunday, Oct. 23. Dana featured comments by Mona Lisa (president and founder of Professional Woman's Magazine) in his column that reflected on the recent Newsweek cover story "How Women Lead" and referenced NAWBO-OC's Remarkable Women event. Great to see a NAWBO-OC woman in the spotlight in the LA Times!

Pam Adams, NAWBO-OC Chair of Membership Retention and Financial Advisor with A.G. Edwards & Sons, was featured in October on the public affairs TV program "Making It" on KTLA-Channel 5 in Los Angeles. Pam offered viewers a brief but compelling "soundbite" on her secret to success. The inspirational weekly program is aimed at entrepreneurs from various ethnic groups, as well as women business owners.

KUDOS
Bonnie Plotkin, a new NAWBO-OC member and owner of Bonnie Plotkin Bail Bonds in Huntington Beach, was one of six finalists in the recent "Make Mine a $Million" competition held by OPEN of American Express. More than 50 California women business owners competed against each other, vying for business loans and mentoring. When the six finalists competed against each other during a women's conference, all were so compelling, according to the judges, that all six were named winners—receiving loans of $45,000 and one-year of coaching. Awarding six awards rather than one was "unprecedented" according to the judges. Congratulations Bonnie!

Davis, Applied Computer Solutions; Gena H. Reed—Paragon Biomedical Inc.; and The Hon. Pamela L. Iles—The Family Violence Project. An additional 27 women from community organizations received awards, including NAWBO-OC's own member of the year, Barri Carian.

This year's event was once again made possible by Marquee Sponsor Farmers & Merchants Bank, and numerous other generous sponsors, including: Adelphia, Presenting Television Sponsor; CitiBank, Gold Sponsor; Blue Cross of California and Haskell & White, both Silver Sponsors; Boeing and Matters at Hand, both NAWBO Partner Sponsors; Churm Publishing and Orange Coast, both Media Sponsors; and BB Graphics, Copi-Rite, Hager Photography, HKA, Inc., Higher Visual Design Inc., My Print Corp. and Zov's Bistro, all Champion Sponsors.

Event Co-Chairs Smita Salgaonkar and Judi Fouladi headed up the awards luncheon and a hard-working committee made it all happen.
