IN THE NEWS
Hilary
Kaye, president of HKA, Inc. and NAWBO-OC board
member, was included in Kim Porrazzo's roundup of New Year's
Resolutions in the January 6 issue of OC Metro.
Pam
Adams, accredited asset management specialist
with A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. and NAWBO-OC board member,
is enjoying a two-fer on the media front. She was quoted
by Peter Gordon in his Financial Advice column: "Sage
Advice for Today's Couples" in the January issue of
Image Magazine. A similarly themed column by Jane
Glenn Haas, writing in the OC Register on January
30, was "Curbing
Inheritance Fights With Planning." In both cases,
Pam gave some timely financial advice.

Dee
Putman-Elliot got a lot of ink for NAWBO-OC's mentoring
program in the February issue of Renew magazine. Here's
one of Dee's insightful quotes: "We found that the 'match'
is what makes a mentoring experience most successful," Putman-Elliott
says. "We include a 'values test' in our application and
use it to match people. Secondarily, we use business similarities." Putman-Elliott
says it's valuable to find a mentor who has reached an income
level or other goal that the mentee hopes to attain. But she
emphasizes that the two need not be in the same business. Good
work Dee!

DEIRDRE
KELLY, FORMER NAWBO-OC PRESIDENT, ASKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT A
bill was recently introduced in the CA state assembly
that would require all licensed
home day care providers to carry liability insurance.
The proposed legislation, AB 122, is a direct result
of
the outrage that NAWBO member Deirdre Kelly and another
local mother felt about the treatment of their children
in the home day-care center of Harbans K. Ahuja, sentenced
on January 11 for two counts of child abuse. Ahuja, a
licensed home child-care provider since 1992, was not insured
at
the time Irvine police found a child in a closet of her
home. With no insurance, civil court damages are harder
to secure, a legal loophole that the mothers hope to
close. Deirdre is asking NAWBO members to write their assembly
representatives in support of this bill. See
OC Register article for details. For letter template
and sample see AB122letter.doc To
get contact information for your assembly representative,
