2011 Remarkable Women Awards: Mission Accomplished with Glitz, Style, Swank and Class

The 16th Annual NAWBO-OC Remarkable Women Awards event held October 4th at The Grove Of Anaheim was a tremendous success. RW has always been a high energy, exciting and impressive event. This year attendees remarked that having RW at the Grove was indeed taking it up a notch, making it even more special with these features: tiered seating, the swanky VIP reception, the theatre atmosphere and the combination of glitz and intimacy. The sold out event celebrated three main honorees: Victoria Betancourt, Michelle Macis and Mari Kurtz. Learn more about the honorees. These women epitomize the Remarkable Women Award’s theme of Inspiration, Courage and Hope. If you think their journeys were an uninterrupted meteoric rise to success, think again.

Their current businesses were not even part of their dreams as young women. Life happened to each one of them – that fork in the road – and each of them chose the road less travelled with all its uncertainties. Each has encountered significant market shifts and has persevered in spite of them, and even leapfrogged to a higher level of success because of these challenges. All three have juggled the competing demands of running a successful business and raising a family while at the same time prioritizing their involvement and commitment to their respective communities. Each one moved out of her comfort zone and accomplished amazing things.

You will have the opportunity to get to know each of our three honorees on a more personal level while sharing great food, conversation and networking at our Remarkable Women Reunion to be held on January 24, 2012 at Posch Restaurant.

In addition to our three main honorees, NAWBO-OC celebrated our Member of the Year, Christina Becker, along with 14 honorees from participating Orange County organizations. Each of these recipients makes Orange County a better place to live and work because of their contribution. NAWBO is proud to pay tribute to them in such a public way. Having our organizations aware of each others’ missions and cross promoting our events allows us to leverage and synergize our efforts. All of this is in keeping with our theme this year of Community, Connections, Competitive Edge: Join, Engage and Use the Opportunity. OC Register’s Jan Norman interviewed all 18 of this year’s recipients for her article “Women advise how to survive tough times” Read the full article.

This year’s successful Remarkable Women Awards event came about because of the hard work and dedication of the RW committee under the very capable and professional leadership of Chair Dorene White, who captured the vision, managed the details and created a cohesive team which deployed leadership and teamwork at every level. Special thanks to the following RW committee chairs: Daralin Dotts, Day of Chair; Dora Lanza, Participating Organization Chair; Sue Pierce, VIP Reception Chair; Mary Jane O’Brien, Graphics Chair; Kennie Sheehan, Advertising Chair; Denise Konte, Videography Chair; and Cindy Reynolds, Public Relations. The process and the outcome were truly amazing and the journey experienced by everyone involved was priceless! It has been my honor to serve with each and every one of you. You did us proud.

Our November 1 dinner meeting is an all time NAWBO-OC member favorite, our Progressive Dinner. Sign up early to make sure you have a seat!! For more information on this and other exciting NAWBO-OC events Click here. You don’t want to miss out!
