June 2011

Summer Success Is Here!

Hello to my fellow NAWBO-OC members, affiliates and admirers.  It has been great to have been your President for the last 12 months. As I assessed where we have been and where we are today, I am proud to share with you our accomplishments. What a dynamic organization we have developed with your help. The top 3 goals for 2010/2011 were to increase membership, build our prestigious list of corporate partners, and utilize technology to enhance communication via a new website. The Board was successful on all counts! Many congratulations.

Along the same positive note, California still leads the nation in state GDP (gross domestic product), which makes us an economic powerhouse. Yeah!  We are growin’ and are goin’ in the right direction! California rocks!

At our June dinner meeting we had the pleasure of hearing Sam Horn speak. She is an award-winning author and speaker worldwide. She has a 20-year track record of results with an international clientele. She speaks of the 7 P’s of strategic positioning. Here are some of her words of wisdom.

She taught us to use the ‘Power of 3’ approach to communicate our competitive edge:

1)  Visualize any upcoming priorities – intrigue the decision maker and get them to raise their eyebrows. Add three “did you know” facts that are intriguing and create irrefutable evidence that makes it so.

2.)  Make the “Waa Waa” information come alive – or as she said, “What is your ‘dog on the tanker’ story?” Using an empathy telescope, we can put ourselves in the shoes of one person to whom we are speaking.

3.)  Engage their right brain – use the word “imagine” so they are right brain engaged, seeing what you’re saying and picturing your point. Raise their eyebrows again and you have done it!

The 7 P’s of Strategic Positioning

Purpose – What is the purpose of this pitch?
Person – Who are your targets?
Problem – What are the problems?  Why are they not buying?  Objections?
Premise – It doesn’t have to be that way.
Promise – Dig deep. What can you customer trust you to do?
POP – How can we zig when others are zagging? What do people want that no one else is offering? What do other competitors do and how do they do it differently?

Next month Cristi Cristich is our speaker. She is a very talented woman who started her business, Cristeck Interconnects, Inc. in 1985. She is a genuine American success story and will share with us how she did it. She now employs over 100 people and operates more than 56,000 sq ft of manufacturing facilities in Southern California and New England.

Join me in supporting our 2011/2012 NAWBO-OC Executive Board as they will be installed on July 12th, 2011.  Maureen Rhyne, our incoming President, has my full support and gratitude as she carries on the tradition in this critical role.

She has chosen such a great group of accomplished professional women who are ready to work hard for you:

  • Dr. Maureen Rhyne, Heritage & Associates – President
  • Loreen Gilbert, WealthWise Financial Service – President Elect
  • Trina Flemming, Women Helping Women – Vice President, Membership
  • Peggy Fu, Focus Business Law Group – Co-Vice President, Corporate Partners
  • Kennie Sheehas, Allianz Merchant Services – Co-Vice P resident, Corporate Partners
  • Kathleen Urquidez, Bezich, Rose & Urquidez – Treasurer
  • Sheila Ivary, S Ivary Consulting – Secretary

Last but not least I wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for your support this last 12 months. I have enjoyed sharing the ride to our NAWBO-OC success. It has been great for me to get to know you and your business needs. I have made my mission to see YOUR success is our success as you are the future of NAWBO-OC.  I will always be your biggest fan!  I look forward to hearing your success stories and seeing you at meetings and around town!
