NAWBO Political Action Committee (PAC) Needs Your Support

Sallie Mullins Thompson, Chair
Bobra S. Bush, Vice-chair

The NAWBO Political Action Committee (NAWBO PAC) is a non-partisan, federal PAC led by prominent women business owners from across the US. THE NAWBO PAC seeks out, endorses and provides financial support to national candidates and nationally elected representatives who clearly and aggressively support the advocacy platform established by NAWBO’s national Public Policy Council. The NAWBO PAC relies entirely on contributions from NAWBO members and other women business owners.

October 22, 2004

Over the past several months, the NAWBO PAC Governing Board conducted a comprehensive evaluation of all of the 2004 national races in order to identify "toss-up" races with candidates who, if elected, will advocate on behalf of the needs of women entrepreneurs.

The PAC Board specifically focused on toss-up races in states and congressional districts where NAWBO has chapters. The purpose of following the NAWBO "footprint" was that, in the case of an endorsement, the local chapter would have the opportunity to participate in the check and/or letter presentation to the candidate. This chapter involvement will result in positive PR for the chapter, intensified member awareness of NAWBO's public policy platform, and a heightened focus on the women entrepreneur vote.

Additionally, the NAWBO PAC considered both candidates in races where NAWBO members nominated candidates. This information was compiled and evaluated by the NAWBO PAC Board of Directors and was an open process in which all NAWBO members were encouraged to contribute.

At this time, we are pleased to announce that the NAWBO PAC endorsed the following candidates:

Note: QNR = Questionnaire not received from endorsed candidate's opponent despite a minimum of three written attempts to the campaign; EVAL = Questionnaire received by both candidates, but evaluation by the NAWBO PAC Board determined the endorsed candidate to be more inclined to support the NAWBO Public Policy Platform. Also, please note that the PAC is initially contributing $1,000 to Willie Landry Mount's general election campaign, and will contribute an additional $1,000 to her campaign, should she succeed in advancing to a probable run-off.

Only general election, not primary, races were reviewed. Funding was reserved for the races that were considered to be 'toss-up' ones by the national party committees; business organizations, such as the United States Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Businesses; as well as non-partisan political analysis firms.

To those of you who contributed to the NAWBO PAC during the past two years, please know that by doing so you enabled the NAWBO PAC to give the maximum contribution to the campaigns of nearly all the candidates endorsed. Your contribution benefits women business owners and their bottom line nationally.
